This is an online theory course that can be completed at home. You will receive a theory kit containing practice charts, text book and exercises and access to a fully interactive online theory program that provides instant feedback on progress. An online yacht master instructor is available to provide additional help.

You will learn about:

Basic seamanship
Charts and how to read them
How to work out compass bearings allowing for variation
Plotting courses and fixing position
Tide heights and currents
Buoyage and pilotage
Safety
Rules of the road
Passage planning
Maintaining navigational records

At the end of the course you will undertake a supervised assessment and on satisfactory completion the Day Skipper Theory Certificate.

It is a course that will help you navigate between ports safely in reasonable conditions along the WA coastline.

The course is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association. Certificates are recognised overseas and this course is an important step towards Day Skipper Practical.
